About ThinkChinese.com

ThinkChinese was built on a simple idea: Chinese can make sense.

Too many courses treat Chinese as a list of things to memorize. ThinkChinese teaches it as a system to understand — with logic-first explanations, pattern recognition, and interactive exercises that help you think in Chinese, not just repeat it.

I remember landing in China in the early 2000s, completely clueless, hunting for any book that could help me break down the code. I spent over two years in small villages in Dongbei and Henan where I was often the only foreigner around — piecing things together through trial, error, and a lot of pointing. When I finally started formal studies at BLCU in Beijing in 2003, things suddenly clicked. The patterns I'd been groping for fell into place, and what had felt impossible started making sense very quickly.

Whether you're starting from zero or picking it up again after years away, this course is designed to give you that same feeling — real understanding, not just survival phrases.

I started building ThinkChinese after my children Alex and Arsene turned one, and I hope they'll share — like you and I do — a love for languages and for learning from others. I strongly believe that learning a new language helps you learn about yourself. It changes the way you think, and it opens doors you didn't know existed in this small, wonderful world.

A personal note

To my two beautiful children — I hope that by the time you are able to go through this course, it will already be too easy for you.
